Better Off This Way by A Day To Remember

BETTER OFF THIS WAY by ADTR
I wonder if you'll notice
If they lock me up and throw away the key,
Try to be open minded,
You"ve got a lot to learn in the ways of me.
You always gotta say somethin,
I'm none of your concern but you wont listen at all.
Ya know I'd rather say nothing,
And just be proud of myself for tearing down these walls.

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away.
When you call I'll be the first to tell you I can't stay.
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me,
I'm better off this way.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/a_day_to_remember/better_off_this_way.html ]
You gotta keep this comin,
Tell it like you know it, but you don't know nothin.
Your call, we can settle this like gentlemen,
Or meet me out the back to end it all and start again.
My whole lifes spent waiting,
Ever since I can remember I've been anticipating your fall,
And God let it be a long one.
Can't let go of my grudge till I know your done.

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away.
When you call I'll be the first to tell you I can't stay.
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me,
I'm better off this way.

You want it, you got it,
You've always been such a waste of time.
You want it, you got it,
A friend of yours is no friend of mine.
You want it, you got it,
When will you act your age?
You want it, you got it,
Your the reason things have to change.
Your the reason things have to change.

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away.
When you call I'll be the first to tell you I can't stay.
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me,
I'm better off this way.

"Better Off This Way" is a song from the singer to either a past friend or relationship, basically saying that they are in a better place without them in their lives. We all have people in our past that we are grateful we have no contact with anymore.
The opening line, "I wonder if you'll notice, If they lock me up and throw away the key," and we see that the singer doubts that if he was taken away or left for good that he doesn't think that said person would notice. The next few lines go on to say how the friend needs to be open minded and to learn more about the singer. But the singer is of little importance to the friend and isn't there for the singer to watch his back. The last two lines state that the singer would rather just watch the relationship fall apart rather than try to fix it.
The chorus starts is just, "When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away. When you call I'll be the first to tell you I can't stay., It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me, I'm better off this way." In a nutshell, it is saying how that if that friend or person comes crawling back to the friendship that the singer is not going to be there to help them whatsoever.
The next lines start with the singer telling the person to tell the story how it seems to him, but that it has no meaning because the friend doesn't know anything about what happened between them. Then my favorite part of the song, "Your call, we can settle this like gentlemen, Or meet me out the back to end it all and start again." He is just saying, Come at me bro! Lets fight and end this friendship and start fresh without each other. The next few lines go on and say that he is waiting for the day that he slips up and falls off his pedestal, and he hopes that  he falls a long way down, back to the bottom where he started. He will not forgive his friend and holds a grudge until he falls.
We go into the chorus again, and after that, it goes into a repetitive lines saying "You want it, you got it," and in between lines it says things like "A friend of yours is no friend of mine," or "When will you act your age?" My favorite is when he says "Your the reason things have to change."
I think almost everyone of my blogs have been over an A Day To Remember song, but these songs are all relevant to ours lives and we can all relate in some way to these songs, even if you do not like this type of music.

It's Complicated lyrics

Here we go again, another night of being bummed
I keep to myself, avoid society
And cancel plans with everyone
I know cause its just how it always ends
Our bond will break cause you can’t relate
To anyone, to anything at all

You brought your worst and I’m right here
Now I've seen it all, and it’s never been so clear

You’re not the person that I knew back then
It’s all too late to set things straight cause
everything has been
You’re not the person that I knew back then
Lets try and act like this didn’t happen
Follow your friends like you ever had them

You still know me
Still not cut out for this sort of thing
Never want to be, caught in between
I need constant reminders of everything
So what! It’s who I am, but I think I played it off so
well
I just hold it in, no matter how I’ve been, so nobody,
nobody can tell

You brought your worst and I’m right here
Now I've seen it all, and it’s never been so clear

You’re not the person that I knew back then
(From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/a/a-day-to-remember-lyrics/it_s-complicated-lyrics.html)
It’s all too late to set things straight cause
everything has been
You’re not the person that I knew back then
Lets try and act like this didn’t happen
Follow your friends like you ever had them

I won’t sleep till the break of dawn
(Break of dawn!)
I cant let our problems find me here
So everybody come on!

You’re not the person that I knew back then
It’s all too late to set things straight cause
everything has been
You’re not the person that I knew back then
Lets try and act like this didn’t happen
Follow your friends like you ever had them

It's Complicated by A Day To Remember

This song is just great. It's a person talking about a severed friendship or relationship with someone close. It begins with the opening lyrics "Here we go again, another night of being bummed," saying how its just another day, nothing special about it. It seems that he is now somewhat antisocial. The bond between the two people is breaking because the other person in the song can't seem to relate to the author. It goes into the chorus, and the entire chorus is saying how the special person has changed since they last knew each other. The next part in the song goes on to say how that even though the person knows the author very well, being in a relationship with that person was don't that persons best quality. And even though it hurts how things have gone, he holds it in to try and fool everyone to thinking that he is all right. I think that we can all relate to a song like this, because at one point in our lives or another we have had to sever a relationship or friendship because it was just the wrong thing for the both of y'all.

Here's to the Past by A Day To Remember

Lyrics to Here's To The Past :
Here's to the past

Let's all think back on what brought us here
This is my grasp on what is real
Don't tell me how I feel
With all that's passed I can't relate
With myself from day to day
why does everything seem so far away
to me

There's no turning back from here
I've got to get away from everyone who's left
Everyone who's left
I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
They said we'd walk away
You'll never make it if you can't speak for yourself
they said we'd fade away

We've all been down this path before
You're trapped in this town
And it wears you down
When we leave today then maybe you'll understand
This constant struggle isn't always in the palm of our hand

There's no turning back from here
I've got to get away from everyone who's left
Everyone who's left
I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
They said we'd walk away
You'll never make it if you can't speak for yourself
they said we'd fade away

This man will stand the test of time
This man will stand the test of time
This man will stand the test of time
This man will stand the test of time

I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
I'll tell the saddest story
Of how we made it through this past year
(Past year, past year...)
They said we'd walk away
You'll never make it if you can't speak for yourself
they said we'd fade away

Here's to the Past by ADTR is a great song, for those who enjoy this type of music. Analyzing just the title gives you the feeling that its some king of tribute to the past, something that has come and is now forever gone. We start off in the opening in the song where the entire band screams "Here's to the past," almost like a toast. The next couple of lines go on as the narraor describes his confusion over his identity and just day to day things. In lines 8-19, he has made a decision to leave everything form that part of his life behind and move on. In line 9, he has get away from everything AND everyone from his past that is still lingering, most likely a relationship in this case i believe. And then lines 10 through 19 its just saying how it's been a long and sad journey from last year, even though some said that they would make it through in the end.
The second break in the song can really be summed up in a few words. If it is a song about a relationship, then one could say that said ex-couple are having relapses into their old ways, even though they know what is going to happen and someone is going to get hurt.
After the same break as before, we get to the words in line 37-40, and its just saying that the man is strong and he is going to pull out of this sad situation just fine eventually. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger right? Overall, I love this song. A Day To Remember is one of my favorite bands, and I love how you can analyze their songs easily.

The Grey

This past weekend, I watched "The Grey," with Liam Neeson. In this movie, Liam Neeson portrays a hired hunter you could say for a corporation drilling for oil in Alaska. As he was on his way back home, his plan malfunctioned and crashed in the middle of nowhere in the Alaskan wilderness. Neeson wakes up and takes charge of the situation by saving all the other crash victims. That night, they are visited by timber wolves, common in Alaska, who are scrounging for food among the crash site. They attack Neeson, and are soon scared off by the survivors. But the wolves come back for more, and after killing a survivor, the others decide to make a run for it. The party of survivors are trekking towards the wood line in the distance, all the while being stalked by the wolves. During this trek, the slower and weaker people are picked off one by one. As the party nears the woods, the wolves ambush them on either side. The survivors make a break for the woods, and once inside the sheltering trunks of the trees, are able to make a fire to keep the wolves at bay. With 5 survivors left, the wolves begin testing them and finding the weaker of them. The alpha male visits them in the middle of the night, to whom Neeson stands his ground against. As night turns into day, the survivors continue their walking and are faced with a number of challenges, not counting the wolves close behind them. Another member dies when he falls off a cliff. One more passes away from sickness, and yet another just gives up entirely. Following a river that has signs of recent logging, the last two survivors, Neeson and David, they are ambushed again and are forced into the river. While being carried away downstream by the current, David gets caught underneath a rock and drowns despite Neeson's futile efforts to safe him. The movie ends when Neeson if confronted at last by the alpha male of the pack, and the movie cuts off as the fight begins. Overall, this was a very good movie. I enjoyed it well enough, although I am not one to watch "scary movies." It is a good watch, and it is also Mr. Nelson approved.

All I Want by A Day To Remember

I'm always screaming my lungs out
till my head starts spinning.
Playing my songs is the way I cope with life.
Won't keep my voice down.
Know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud.

I like to keep things honest.
I'm a safe bet like your life's staked on it. For real.
I'd hate to keep you all wondering.
I'm constant like the seasons, and I will never be forgotten man.

Let's leave no words unspoken
and save regrets for the broken.
Will you even look back when you think of me?

All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.
Keep your hopes up high and your head down low.

Still got something left to prove.
It tends to keep things moving.
While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead
But just what the hell do they think they know?
I keep my head above the water while they drown in the undertow.

Let's leave no words unspoken
and save regrets for the broken.
Will you even look back when you think of me?
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/a_day_to_remember/all_i_want.html ]
All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.
All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.

If you take it from me,
Live your life for yourself.
Cause when it's all said and done you don't need anyone else.
Come on!

So let's get back to when everything seemed perfect.
Not a worry in the world, tell me was this all worth it?
I get what I want, so everyone’s always judging me.
I’m not afraid of anything, and I've got the whole world in front of me.

All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low
All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low

Keep your head down low.
Keep your head down low.
Keep your hopes up high and your head down low.

The way that I take this song is that his music is his way of expressing himself. I believe this is why he opens with the first couple verses saying, “I'm always screaming my lungs out till my head starts spinning. Playing my songs is the way I cope with life. Won't keep my voice down. Know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud.” He uses songs to express his feelings that he may not be able to say out loud.
We move on the the next set of verses, he says straight up that he is going keep things honest. In the verse where he says, “I'm constant like the seasons, and I will never be forgotten man,” he’s saying he is not changing and he is himself, not changing whether people like it or not.
The next set of verses, I think this is more the entire band expressing that they are going to say what they want to say because anything less than that would be a defeat to them. The verse, “and save the regrets for the broken,” says that give everything you got, and when your all said and done have no regrets. Leave it to the people, (or bands), that have fallen before to regret everything.
Next, he just says that he wants to belong somewhere, to call something home. He wants his songs to provide happiness or some emotion to his listeners.
“You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low,” the next verse, is saying that you need to keep your hopes high, but be humble as you do so.
Next couple verses in the song, “If you take it from me, Live your life for yourself. Cause when it's all said and done you don't need anyone else. Come on,” are my favorite of the song. Its him giving us a little piece of advice, saying that live to be yourself, and not someone fake. Cause when its all over, you don’t need to act like anyone else but yourself to be happy.
